What is a poll?

A poll is a simple way to gather quick feedback from your community. Unlike surveys, which can include different types of questions and formats, polls focus only on single-choice or multiple-choice questions.

The key advantage of polls is their visibility and ease of use: poll questions appear directly on the project page, making it easy for users to participate without leaving the page. This makes polls a fast, accessible, and effective way to understand what your community is thinking and feeling in the moment.

How to create a poll?

Step 1: Creating Your Poll

To create a poll, go to Projects > Create a Project, then press Save. In the new phase that appears, select Create a survey as the project type and choose Quick Poll as the survey option.

Polls only include single-choice or multiple-choice questions, since they are designed for quick participation. If you want to include more complex question types, we recommend using the Survey method instead.

When creating your first poll question, you’ll be asked to provide a title and then add options. Once your first question is saved, select Cancel to return and add another question.

Step 2: Setting Up Your Poll

  • Anonymous participation: Polls can be set to anonymous so users can vote freely without concerns about privacy. Keep in mind, participants still need a registered account on the platform to take part.

  • Project description: Provide clear and detailed information in the description. This helps participants make informed choices and ensures you collect valuable, reliable data.

  • Timing: Allow enough time for everyone to answer. Some users may be busy or miss the initial announcement, so plan your timeline accordingly.

  • Promotion: Share your poll on other communication channels (e.g. newsletters, social media) to maximize participation.

How to report when using a poll?

Once your poll has been completed, you can export the results by going to the Poll tab in the phase and clicking Export Poll Results. The data will be downloaded as an Excel file.

From there, you can:

  • Visualize the results in your own software, then share them on the platform by creating a dedicated information phase (e.g. Poll Analysis).

  • Follow up on results by adding more phases to the timeline for evaluation, comments, or volunteering opportunities. For example, a Poll Evaluation phase can help gather qualitative insights to better understand the “why” behind the responses.

Important notes:

  • Poll answers cannot be deleted on the platform. If necessary, you can remove them from the exported Excel file. For urgent cases, please contact us at support@govocal.com

  • Poll analysis is not built-in: the platform does not currently offer analytics features for polls.

  • Reports are not supported: you cannot use the Report Builder for polls.

  • Choice requirements: There is no setting for a minimum number of answer choices. Users can select either one or multiple options depending on the question type.
